Terms of Use

Teachit Studio (“Studio”) is operated by Sandbox Learning Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 12635255 and trading as Teachit (“Teachit”, “we”, “us”), part of the Sandbox group. Our registered office is 6th Floor Capital Tower, 91 Waterloo Road, London SE1 8RT, United Kingdom. You can reach us at support@teachit.co.uk.

By using Studio you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use Studio.

Studio and Teachit are separate services

Studio is its own application, on its own address, with its own storage. You will often arrive here from a link on Teachit, and we are adding more of those links over time, so the two can feel like one product. They are not the same service, and which terms apply depends on which one you are using.

One practical difference worth knowing: Teachit carries advertising. Studio carries none, and shares nothing about you for advertising purposes. The Privacy Policy sets out the difference in full.

Studio is a professional tool for teachers and other educators. To use it you must:

• be at least 18 years old;
• have a Teachit account in good standing; and
• be using Studio as an educator.

Studio is not a product for students. Students do not need an account and must not create one. The one place students take part is a live quiz a teacher runs — section 9.

There is no separate sign-up for Studio. You sign in with your Teachit account, and Teachit passes us your email address, your name, your user ID, and your subscription tier (free, basic or premium). We never see your password, and no card or billing details reach Studio.

You are responsible for what happens under your account. Keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us promptly if you think someone else is using your account.

If your Teachit account is closed or suspended, your access to Studio ends with it.

Some of what Studio does is free. Some requires a paid Teachit subscription, and some has usage limits that apply whether or not you pay. We show you which is which in the product.

Your subscription, its price, its renewal and its cancellation are governed by the Teachit Subscription Terms (opens in a new tab), not by this page. Billing happens on Teachit.

We may change which features are free, which are paid, and what the usage limits are. Where a change takes away something you are currently paying for, we will tell you before it takes effect.

Your Content means everything you put into Studio: files you upload, links you paste, the topics and instructions you type, the messages you send in chat, and the titles and folders you create.

Your Content stays yours. We do not claim ownership of it.

To run Studio we need your permission to handle it. You grant Teachit a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, transmit, adapt and display Your Content, solely in order to provide Studio to you. That includes sending it to the third-party providers described in section 7, because generating a resource means sending your material to an AI provider and getting the result back.

That permission is limited in three specific ways:

• It is only for running the service. We do not use Your Content for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it except as described in the Privacy Policy.
• We do not train AI models on Your Content.
• It ends when you delete. Delete a note, a resource or your account and the licence ends with it, except for copies held in routine backups for a limited period.

You promise you have the right to upload it

Teachers often work from material they did not write — a publisher’s worksheet, a chapter of a textbook, a colleague’s lesson plan. Studio does not check whether you hold the rights in what you give it, and cannot. By uploading, you confirm that you either own the material or have permission to use it this way, and that using it in Studio does not break anyone else’s rights, your school’s rules, or the law.

Output means what Studio produces for you: worksheets, quizzes, lesson plans, flashcards, notes, summaries, chat replies, and the PDF and Word files you download.

As between you and Teachit, the Output is yours. We assign to you whatever rights we may have in it, and you may use it in your classroom, print it, share it with colleagues and students, and adapt it, without paying us anything further.

Two honest caveats:

• Output is not necessarily unique. Another teacher who asks for something similar may get something similar. We cannot promise your Output is original, and we do not grant you any exclusivity over it.
• AI output may not be protectable. Whether material generated by AI attracts copyright at all is unsettled in many countries. We are giving you everything we can give you; we cannot give you more than the law recognises.

Studio is an AI system. It is powered by large language models that we reach through third-party providers, and it works by sending your material to those providers to be processed.

What that means in practice:

• The text of what you upload or type is sent to an AI provider so it can generate your resource. It is sent for that purpose and no other.
• Audio and video recordings are sent to a speech-to-text provider to be turned into text.
• A YouTube link you paste usually goes nowhere: we fetch the video’s own captions ourselves. If it has none, we download its audio and send that to the same speech-to-text provider — an AI step, on someone else’s published video, never on your own material. Only if both of those fail is the video address, and only the address, sent to a transcript provider, which retrieves the captions or transcribes the audio itself. We do not AI-transcribe videos longer than 30 minutes by either route.
• PDFs are read on our own servers. A PDF is never sent to a third party just to be read.
• No AI provider is permitted to train on your material.

The Privacy Policy names every provider we use and what each one receives. If you want to know exactly where your material goes, that is the page to read.

AI gets things wrong

Studio can produce answers that are factually incorrect, answer keys that are wrong, reading levels that miss, and citations to things that do not exist. It does not know your students, your curriculum or your context.

Everything Studio produces is a draft, and you are the teacher. You are responsible for reviewing Output before you use it with a class, for its accuracy, and for whether it is appropriate for the students in front of you. Studio does not make decisions about students, and it must not be used as though it does.

Studio does not need pupil personal information, and asks for none. There is no field for a pupil’s name, email address, marks or records anywhere in the product, apart from the live quiz described in section 9.

Please do not upload it. Do not upload marked pupil work, class lists, EHCPs or SEND plans, assessment records or anything else that identifies a pupil. Studio cannot detect that you have, and material you upload is sent to AI providers to be processed.

If you do upload student information despite this:

• you confirm you have the authority to do so from your school, trust or employer;
• you remain responsible for meeting the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, the Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance and your school’s own data protection policy, or whatever applies where you work; and
• we handle it as described in the Privacy Policy, as a service provider to your school.

A live quiz lets you put a quiz on the board and have students join from their own devices with a code. It is deliberately thin:

• Students do not create accounts and are never asked for an email address or a password.
• A student types a name — whatever you have told them to use — and answers questions.
• Nothing follows a student between sessions. No student profile exists anywhere in Studio.
• Marking happens on our own servers by comparing the student’s answer against the answer key. No student’s answers are ever sent to an AI provider.
• A session stops accepting answers 4 hours after it starts, and everything in it is deleted within 24 hours.

You are in charge of the session. Tell your students what name to use — first names or initials are enough, and nothing in Studio needs their real full name. Sharing the join link is your decision, and anyone with the link and the code can join while the session is open.

Do not use Studio to:

• upload anything unlawful, infringing, hateful, harassing or sexually explicit;
• upload material you do not have the right to use;
• generate material intended to deceive, defame or harm anyone;
• produce work for a student to submit as their own;
• work around usage limits, or use automated means to access Studio at scale;
• resell Studio or access to your account;
• copy, reverse engineer or attempt to extract the models, prompts or systems behind Studio;
• probe, scan or interfere with the security of Studio or the systems behind it; or
• do anything that breaks the law where you are, or your employer’s rules.

We may remove content and suspend or end access if these terms are broken. Where the situation allows it, we will tell you why.

Studio itself — the software, the design, the templates and layouts, the Teachit and Teachit Studio names and logos — belongs to Teachit and its licensors. These terms give you permission to use Studio; they do not give you any rights in it.

The document templates and page designs Studio applies to your resources stay ours. You own what goes into them, and you can use the finished document however you like, but you may not extract the templates for use in another product.

Studio is under active development. Features will be added, changed and sometimes removed. Some features are labelled as previews, and those may change or disappear with little notice.

We do not promise Studio will be available without interruption. Generation depends on third-party AI providers, and there will be times when it is slow, degraded or unavailable.

We will give you reasonable notice of changes that materially reduce what Studio does for you.

You can stop at any time. You can delete individual notes, resources and sessions from within Studio, or delete your whole Studio account from your account settings. Account deletion is immediate and cannot be undone — your Studio notes, resources and files are removed and cannot be recovered. Your Teachit account and subscription are not affected and continue separately.

We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if we are required to, or if we stop offering Studio. If we stop offering Studio, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to download what you have made.

Sections 5, 6, 11, 15, 16 and 17 survive the end of these terms.

Your subscription is a contract with Teachit, not with Studio: you buy it on teachit.co.uk and it is governed by the Teachit Terms and Conditions (opens in a new tab). Cancelling it, refunds, and any statutory cancellation right you may have are all handled there, under that document, and not on this page.

What cancelling does here is simple: when the subscription ends, the paid features end with it and your account carries on at the free tier. Nothing you have already made is deleted by cancelling — section 13 covers deleting your Studio account, which is a separate act with a separate consequence. There is nothing to cancel on the free tier: it costs nothing and renews nothing.

Studio is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that Output will be accurate, complete, original, curriculum-aligned or fit for any particular class.

Nothing here excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and if you are a consumer you keep your statutory rights. If you are a consumer in the UK, nothing here excludes or limits our obligation under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to provide Studio with reasonable care and skill.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Teachit is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data or lost goodwill, arising out of your use of Studio.

Our total liability arising out of or relating to Studio is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for your Teachit subscription in the twelve months before the claim, or £100.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of them. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your own courts, and nothing here takes that right away.

There is no arbitration clause and no waiver of class or representative proceedings in this agreement. The corresponding provisions in the Teachit Terms of Use, if any, are agreements about that service and are not incorporated here.

Nothing in this section affects your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or any other mandatory rule of the law where you live, and none of it requires you to bring a claim anywhere other than your local courts where that law gives you the right to do so.

We do not participate in an alternative dispute resolution scheme. If something has gone wrong, email support@teachit.co.uk and we will deal with it directly; the courts named above remain open to you either way.

We update this page when Studio changes. The date at the top is the last time it changed. If a change materially affects your rights, we will tell you in the product rather than relying on you to re-read this page. Using Studio after a change means you accept the updated terms.
